The collection has been arranged alphabetically by topical heading. General correspondence includes a 1962 letter signed by Helen Keller. Photographs include many pictures of Boyd as well as her friend and other Hope College faculty members. The poems and riddles folders contain many of Boyd's original poems and short stories.

Laura Alice Boyd received her B.A. degree from Tarkio College (1906) and her M.A. degree from Missouri State University (1907). She began teaching at Hope College in 1921 as instructor of German. Boyd became a full professor of German in 1929. She remained at Hope College until her retirement in 1955. From the description of Papers, 1922-1962. Paul Fried, born in Leipzig, Germany, graduated from Hope College in 1946. He received a masters degree in history from Harvard University in 1947 and a Ph. D. from the University of Erlangen (Germany) in 1949. He joined the faculty of Hope College as Instructor in History in 1953. During his tenure at Hope he also served as chair of the history dept. (1959-1973), director of the Vienna Summer School (1956-1969; 1971-1973), and director of International Education (1964-1981). From th...
