Laura Alice Boyd received her B.A. degree from Tarkio College (1906) and her M.A. degree from Missouri State University (1907). She began teaching at Hope College in 1921 as instructor of German. Paul Fried, born in Leipzig, Germany, graduated from Hope College in 1946. He received a masters degree in history from Harvard University in 1947 and a Ph. D. from the University of Erlangen (Germany) in 1949. He joined the faculty of Hope College as Instructor in History in 1953. During his tenure at Hope he also served as chair of the history dept.
